Formerly known as Bundaberg Amateur Players, Bundaberg Players Incorporated is housed in The Playhouse Theatre, situated at 2 B Steffensen Street. Putting on both famous and lesser-known productions for more than 60 years, Playhouse Bundaberg is one of only three venues in the area that feature a stage and auditorium.
The Playhouse Theatre is outfitted with a reversible proscenium arch theatre. The auditorium is small, but tiered, and offers seating for just under 250 guests. It then gives way to a single level room that offers seating for an additional 120 theatre goers. A grand foyer, kitchen and bar complete The Playhouse Theatre. The building is handicap-accessible in the front row.
The Bundaberg Players put on at least five productions each year. Past productions have included “Little Shop of Horrors”, “The Sleeper Murders” and “Seussical The Musical”. They also host a youth theatre that focuses on young actors between the ages of 10 and 18. Registration is held each January and children must have reached their 10th birthday by the registration date. The youth theatre does such performances as “Aladdin Junior”.
The theatre is often rented by other groups for various events, some of which are public. Choral performances, band concerts, musicals and awards ceremonies are just some examples of the activities that have taken place in The Playhouse Theatre.
The Bundaberg Players are a non-profit organization that runs solely on the time, effort and donations of volunteers and patrons. Theatre lovers will enjoy the quiet charm of the building and the lively performances of the actors when they visit Playhouse Bundaberg.
